You'll start your shifts in Engineering, Science Labs, Stellar Cartography, or other departments, working alongside other junior officers and NCOs. You'll grab meals in the crew mess, not the senior officers' table. You'll hear secondhand accounts of the bridge crew's latest mission while you're recalibrating sensors or running diagnostics. The emotional journey moves from being an anonymous face in the crowd to gradually becoming known — first to department heads, then maybe to senior staff, and eventually, if you prove exceptional, working directly with the legends themselves.
